TW Research Ltd

Areas where the company has a particular expertise include:-

Service List

A particularly valuable aspect of the company’s capabilities in this area is the provision of a wider view of problems of specification and design, based on a detailed understanding of system and operational requirements.

Radar system specification and design

A ‘first principles’ understanding of radar operation and the practical and mathematical aspects of signal processing enables the company to develop special purpose signal processing solutions to specific, novel radar problems.

Radar signal processing

The company has a world class expertise in the data analysis, simulation and modelling of radar clutter. Professor Jakeman and Dr. Ward discovered and developed the K distribution, that underlies much of the current research into, and application of, clutter modelling and the prediction of radar performance. Dr Tough has also made significant contributions to the understanding of the mathematical aspects of this work.

Radar clutter

The company has a detailed physical understanding of the various processes involved and their manifestation in maritime radar imagery, coupled with a significant expertise in the theoretical methods used in their description.

Rough surface scattering

The company possesses an excellent general knowledge of radar imaging problems and their more conventional solutions. This is complemented by an active research presence in the areas of synthetic (and inverse synthetic) aperture imaging, delta-k and multi-beam methods and the enhancement of SAR imagery by interferometric, polarimetric and likelihood ratio techniques.

Radar imaging

Professor Jakeman and Dr. Tough have many years’ experience in the application of mathematical methods to the solution of practical physical problems. These include radar and optical signal processing, stochastic processes, heat and mass transfer and the properties of complex states of matter, such as liquid crystals and suspensions. Their expertise in the formal analysis of these problems is underpinned by a commitment to the use of state of the art computational and numerical methods in their solution.

Mathematical methods

The company has a proven track record in implementing schemes for improved radar data processing, simulation and radar performance assessment. An example of this is the Radar simulation and performance assessment (RaSPA) application. We have developed  software applications for laboratory and real-time demonstrators. In partnership with our sister company IgenceTWP, we are now able to offer a complete solution to the through-life modelling, analysis, software simulation and implementation of complex radar Systems
